Ashanti Martinez is a proud member of the Young Democrats of Prince George’s County where he serves as Vice-President of Membership. At the 2013 Congressional Black Caucus Foundation’s Annual Legislative Conference, he was on a Youth Panel discussing the importance of Black Leadership.  During his senior year of high school, because of the lack of LGBTQ representation in Prince George’s County, he created the LGBTQ Student Liaison for the Prince George’s County Regional Association of Student Governments (PGRASG). In 2014, he was the recipient of The Prince George’s Harlem Remembrance Foundation L.O.V.E. Award on Excellence in Service and the Kiwanis Club of Prince George's County Civics Award.  Ashanti was named in the “Top 30 Under 30” by 93.9 WKYS in  2017 and was also featured on the  “Forty Under 40” in the same year by the Prince George’s County Social Innovation Fund. Over the summer of 2014 he had the privilege to worked in the D.C. office of Congressman Elijah E. Cummings and in the spring of 2015, he worked alongside the office of Congressman Steny Hoyer, the House Democratic Whip's Leadership Office. During the 2016 election cycle he served as Political Director to Delegate Joseline Peña-Melnyk on her bid for Maryland's 4th Congressional District. Ashanti is a currently student at Howard University where he majors in Political Science. He has been featured in the Washington Post, WUSA 9, BET, and NPR.
